After recently spending his birthday last January 12 with just members of his family, Piolo Pascual said he is looking forward to accomplishing a lot of things both personally and professionally this year.
After a tumultuous breakup with KC Concepcion, the 35 year old actor admits he is moving on and just trying o maintain a positive outlook on his life right now. “You always look at life na you try to feel good because of life. I always try to feel better because life always has something good to offer and ako napaka-positibo kong tao. Tinitingnan ko lagi yung kagandahan. Tinitignan ko yung magandang value, yung positive so I’m looking forward to the work I have with ABS-CBN,” he shared during the Timex Run 2012 press conference held last January 13 at the Café La Carmela in Makati City.
Piolo, along with running coach Rio De la Cruz, signed up to join the 10k event which will happen on January 22 at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. Timex Run 2012 is also planning to do a leg in key cities like Davao and Cebu later this year as well.
This coming September, Piolo revealed he will go to Germany to compete in his first 42k event in the Berlin Marathon which is one of the five major marathon events in the world which he hopes to complete one day. The actor-singer said he has always had a passion for running even before it became popular. “Maliit pa lang ako mahilig na ako tumakbo. Pero hindi naman uso dati ang running eh. Hindi naman competitive yan nun eh, siguro sa mga runners lang talaga. Siguro nung naging uso siya, it became a fad and then hindi na nawala. Mahilig lang talaga ako tumakbo. Then dumiretso ako sa duathlon tapos nagtre-train ako ng triathlon. It’s because it makes you feel better, you look better, and of course you go against your age. As you age, you want to look younger, you want to feel younger so may health benefits kaya ko lagi ginagawa. It’s a wonderful experience to push yourself,” he shared with Push.com.ph.
After trimming down to as low as 160 pounds during training, Piolo revealed he had to adjust his diet so as not to lose any more weight. “It’s hard to juggle it between work and you need to put in minimum of ten hours per week to train for that. So it’s kind of hard to do something like that. Pag naglo-lower ako sa 160 talagang bumabagsak yung katawan ko. Pero wala namang nagbago sa diet ko. I’m eating rice again. Kaya ako lumakas kumain kasi I’m eating rice again pero kailangan kasi I get to burn it. Pumapayat kasi ako because of running so I wasn’t eating pork, beef, rice at one time because of training. But because of running and too much training, nag-lose weight ako so now I’m eating rice and beef. So ang natanggal ko lang yung pork. I love to eat so hindi ako choosy sa pagkain,” he explained.
During the press conference, Piolo also shared some personal tips for running. “Before going to a run, I try to drink whey and may mga protein bars eh. Pero during the run, ang bumuhay talaga sa akin yung bananas and then tubig lang. I also stretch before and after. Tinuro sa akin ni coach Rio yan. Konting run tapos para hindi ma-strain yung muscles and then we stretch. Actually we stretch after. Konting stretch before and after. Some runners they eat right away after a run. Ako wala akong appetite minsan so because of that siguro I drink a sports drink,” he said.
