Contrary to recent speculations on Twitter, Derek Ramsay insisted that all is well between him and girlfriend Angelica Panganiban. Apparently, some of followers misconstrued their lack of sweetness as a sign of a troubled relationship. “Kasi nga sinabi ko lang, ‘Happy Valentine’s Day’ malamig na daw kaagad ako. Siguro naman ‘pag Valentine’s gusto ko naman sabihin in person hindi lang over Twitter ‘di ba? Angel was in the hospital for Valentine’s. I went over there to see her. So hindi ko alam kung saan nanggaling yun. We’re very okay, we’re very good,” he reiterated in an interview with Push.com.ph at the recent press con of his tuna brand endorsement.
Known for showering each other with extravagant gifts, Derek kept mum this time about what he gave Angel last Valentine’s Day. He explained that they don’t need a special occasion to express their love for each other. “Secret na lang natin. We don’t do that. We don’t give gifts on Valentine’s. My belief is we do that all throughout the year. Whenever we have time, we can go out on a special date. So what we do, we organize a charity event for kids in Muntinlupa. But Valentine’s Day fell on a working day and a school day, so we’re hoping to do it this Saturday or the next.”
Many would say that both Derek and Angel have reached the ideal marrying age for couples. Asked if Angel is getting impatient as to when he’d propose, Derek cheerfully replied, “I hope not. She’s always vocal naman to me. So I’m sure I’d hear it. And she’d make sure na pumasok ‘yan sa utak ko. May kasabihan nga na if you’ve been together for five years, either get married or break up. So yeah, of course we’re looking forward to that.”
Although they don’t have plans to get married anytime soon, Derek claimed that Angel’s “The One” for him. “Concrete plans, wala pa. But I’ve always said that I feel I’m ready to get tied down with Angel. We’ve been together for five years and I’m looking forward to spending great years with Angel. We’re both doing well in our careers, our relationship is very healthy, so that’s the biggest thing that can happen to a relationship. So someday, at the end of the road, dun din kami mapupunta.”
It’s also interesting to know that Angel has grown closer to Derek’s family over the years. In fact, Angel and his mom spent some major girl bonding while Derek got busy with his show in Dubai a few weeks ago. “Sumama si Angel sa akin dun. Sumama din mommy ko. She had a break because she suffered from a mild heart attack. It was good for her to get some rest. Hindi ko nakita si Angel dun. Si Angel at ang mommy ko ang magkasama nag-shopping at umikot-ikot sa Dubai. We had a lot of fun there. It was a good four days na nakapag-relax kami and it was nice of Angel to support me sa show ko sa Dubai.”
During that brief trip, Derek further shared that they enjoyed touring around Dubai’s famous tourist spots. “We went to Burj Al Arab, the seven-star hotel; tapos sa gold souk, grabe noon lang ako nakakita ng ganon karaming ginto, nagpunta rin kami sa Dubai Emirates Mall and we watched the fountain show. We were also able to meet some great Filipino designers like Michael Cinco. We went to dinner and they brought us around. So it was a really good trip. Gusto ko nga bumalik eh.”
