Erich Gonzales finally put an end to rumors that she and her Maria La del Barrio co-star Enchong Dee are not on speaking terms. Although they’re not really close friends off cam, she insisted that it doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re enemies either. “To begin with, we were never really close, like yung on the set sobrang tsika tsika, kasi nandoon kami para magtrabaho. I’m not saying na hindi kami nag-uusap or kung ano man, pero ‘di ba? Kapag trabaho, trabaho po talaga. Napakaimportante yung during break time kwentuhan, pero yung trabaho trabaho lang,” she said in an interview with ABS-CBN reporters at a special meet and greet with some avid Enchong-Erich fans last February 20.
In a previous report, Enchong confirmed that they have had minor misunderstandings that they easily patch up behind the camera. As it is, occasional friction between two people who are closely working together is inevitable. Erich further explained that what matters is that they don’t let such minor incidents affect their work. “As long as nakaka-deliver kami kung anong hinihingi sa amin sa eksena ng director, okay naman ho, okay yung relationship namin. Basta sobrang thankful kami dahil sa partnership namin, ilang teleserye na kaming magkasama, may mga tao kaming napapasaya at na-i-inspire namin sila. That’s very important for us kasi that’s why we’re here and dahil po sa kanila kaya kami nandito.”
Erich also expressed her gratitude to the viewers who always stay tuned in to Maria La del Barrio. “Sobra kaming nagpapasalamat sa kanila dahil hindi kami tatagal ng almost 7 months kung hindi dahil sa suporta nila. Sa last two weeks abangan nila ang mga pasabog. Kagaya ng sinabi ko, magbayad ang dapat magbayad, malalaman nila yung magiging kapalaran ni Maria, kung anong kaya niyang gawin para makuha yung pagibig ng anak niya na matagal na niyang hinanap.”
Given that this is her most mature role throughout her showbiz career so far, Erich claimed that she learned a lot from her struggles as Maria in the story. “Yung lesson na tayong lahat makakagawa tayo ng mali at tamang desisyon. Dapat marunong tayong i-acknowledge yun at ituwid yung mga pagkakamaling yun. At kagaya dito sa kwento, poisoned yung utak ng anak ko ngayon, so kailangan gawin ang lahat para makuha ang loob niya.”
